What are probes?

Introduction

Multi-hole probes and systems from Vectoflow are used to measure static and total pressure, speed, and angle of a fluid flow. Their shape, size, and material can be customized to better suit each application in areas such as motorsports, aviation, turbomachinery development, research and others. The innovative manufacturing process used increases the robustness of the probes, making them ideal for use in harsh environments with high pressures and high temperatures.

Based on the Bernoulli effect, Vectoflow’s probes can be used to easily and precisely determine the pressure, speed and flow angle of fluid flows. The pressure distribution at the tip of the probe is measured and the flow parameters are determined through correlations with accurate calibration profiles individual to each probe. The following applies: the more holes at the probe tip, the higher the achievable accuracy and the measurable angular range.

Vectoflow’s probes are built using state-of-the-art additive manufacturing processes, allowing for one-piece parts to be produced, which increases robustness while also simplifying maintenance and cleaning routines. The flexibility given by 3D printing processes allows for a wide range of shapes, materials, and geometries, adapting each probe to its specific use with the highest achievable quality.

Geometry:

With Vectoflow's manufacturing process, you can flexibly customize your probe geometry. The probe head can be as small as 1.3 mm and lengths of up to 250 mm are standard.

  • A square or hex-shaped reference surface allows you to attach your probe to your system without changing your set up.
  • We are currently developing an easy connector to attach to the flexible pressure lines.

Head shape:

Different probe tip shapes are available. Conical and hemispherical heads are standard. Other application-specific geometries are also possible.
